Morning Drink: Frothy Spicy Hot Lemon Water with Ginger


Switch up, and opt for a healthier morning drink, by drinking spicy hot lemon water with ginger. Sure, it’s not as tasty as a cuppucino or lattes, but, the benefits certainly outweigh any cup of Caffè latte.


This is spin on of the classic hot water with lemon and ginger and it is absolutely delicious and it gives a nice change in texture as well. Besides being absolutely delicious, it has a whole BOAT LOAD of health benefits.

A natural cleanse,  lemon water with ginger works wonders for the skin, contains amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients as well as digestion and immune-boosting properties. I always like to drink this beverage in the morning, but it goes well at any time of day. Learn more about benefits here

To mix this recipe up you could also blend a few chopped mint leaves, add cayenne for some spice, or honey/sweetener for a touch of sweetness.

Here’s what you’ll need:
  • 12 – 16 oz hot water
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • ½ tsp lemon zest 
  • 1 in (2.5 cm) piece of ginger, peeled and grated
  • dash of African allspice (see recipe) or cayenne pepper (all optional)
  • ¼ – ½ teaspoon honey(optional)
Directions:
  1. Boil water until desired temperature.
  2. Pour hot water into blender and add lemon juice, lemon zest and ginger- if you’re adding allspice/cayenne pepper and honey you may as well add them.
  3. Blend on medium speed for 20-30 seconds.
  4. Pour into glass and enjoy!

Even if you can’t see yourself giving up coffee for a few days, you can still implement drinking lemon water in your morning routine, before the coffee. Are you up for the challenge?
