Tip Of The Week: Stretching

Stretch properly after every workout session

At the end of a workout, the last thing to do is to properly stretch your whole body stretch and cool down. It promotes proper blood circulation, reduces muscle soreness, improves flexibility and prevents post-workout cramps.
As you perform contraction after contraction during a workout, your muscles are left in a shortened state. Stretching helps to rearrange your body to a natural posture and position . Stepping out of a workout session/gym without paying attention to areas that are very tight, you may pay the price later on with increased stiffness and soreness.

One important note: Not all muscles need to be stretched post-workout. Focus on stretching only those areas that are exceptionally tight either from a workout or from daily posture.

Bonus tip: Stretching before a workout is also crucial for preventing injury as well as improving performance, especially if you workout right after waking up or if you're quite sedentary during the day, your muscles are going to be tight.

When (and how) you stretch your muscles can make or break your fitness goals. See suggested ways to stretch below for further reading.
